Marked by a richly sensuous cinematic style, Emilie Badenhorst is a powerful voice in a new generation of filmmakers. Her work shows an intuitive understanding of the subtlety and honesty required of performance and storytelling.
From very early on in her career, Emilie has had an unwavering drive to create films that connect emotionally with her audience. After releasing two short films Bubblegum and Unsex Me, she established herself as a director to watch in the international arena.
Emilie’s short film, Ekstasis delicately brings together the themes of love, intimacy, and loss to explore female identity politics. The film earned her Best Direction at the New Renaissance Film Festival
(EU) and a Silverscreen at the Young Director’s Awards (USA). She went on to co-found Unusual Bones, a women-led creative collective that is set to release her new short film later on this year.
Emilie’s remarkable range in capturing emotion through evocative visuals shines through in her music videos for Lolo Zouaï, 6lack and Khalid. Her most recent music video for Dom Dolla, titled ‘Strangers’ is no exception, which is a boundary-pushing portrait of young love.
